We know that our dog relies on us to provide them with food, water, a safe place to sleep, exercise, and veterinary care. Being able to provide for your dog’s biological needs is the first step in building a strong bond with them. In this four parts blog series, we will discuss why it is important to keep your dog hydrated and the consequences of not doing so.

PART 1: Body functions

As a dog owner, one of the most important things you can do for your furry friend is to keep them hydrated. Just like humans, dogs need water to survive; and making sure they have access to clean, fresh water at all times is vital for their health and happiness. Water is crucial for maintaining a dog’s body functions. Our dog’s body is designed for agility, speed, and strength, allowing our furry friends to perform a wide variety of tasks, from hunting and herding to companionship and protection. Let’s be honest, who does not like an energetic and charismatic dog? Water is crucial! It helps transport nutrients throughout our dog’s body, regulates internal temperature, and keeps their joints and tissues lubricated. Although dog’s body shape looks very different from people, they share many of our body’s characteristics. Dogs have a heart and circulatory system to transport blood, lungs to take in oxygen and rid the body of carbon dioxide, a digestive tract to absorb nutrients from food, and many more similarities. The dog’s body is made up of water and it can be up to 80% of their body. Without it, their body would quickly start to shut down. If your dog is not adequately hydrated, it can lead to serious health issues such as dehydration, heatstroke, kidney failure, and even death.

Additionally, proper hydration can help prevent a range of health issues in dogs. One of the most common issues is urinary tract infections (UTIs). UTIs are caused by bacteria that grow in the urinary tract, and dogs who are not adequately hydrated are more prone to developing them. Other health problems, such as constipation, kidney stones, and even gum disease, can be linked to dehydration.

All of these health problems can be prevented by ensuring that your dog has access to clean, fresh water. They LOVE fresh water! We strongly believe that our best friend’s need to receive the care they deserve and to protect their well-being is Bestie bottle main goal.
